TASK 1
I have been teaching Mathematics since July 2007 but before that I teach science since 2004. At that time I just continue topic Loci. After the lesson, I can see students face show that they didn’t understand the topic and I can evaluated based on the exercise given to them. So, I shared my experience with my friend who was an experience teacher and tell her my problems. Then, my friend give me a very good idea how to teach the topic. Actually the ‘clue’ are inside the question itself and they can answer the question correctly.
Learning Objectives in this topic are :
Construct the locus of a set of all point that satisfies the condition
a) the point is at a constant distance from a fixed point – clue - 1 point = so, the locus is
a circle
1 point = the locus is a circle
b) the point is at equidistant from two fixed points – clue - 2 points = so, the locus is
a perpendicular bisector
( 2 points A and B) = perpendicular bisector
c) the point is at a constant distance from a straight line – clue - 1 line = so, the locus is
a pair of parallel lines
Example : Line AB ( 1 line) = pair of parallel lines
d) the point is at equidistance from two intersecting lines – clue - 2 lines = so, the locus is
a bisector of angle
Example : Lines AB and AC ( 2 lines) = bisector of angle
This lesson needs students to understand the questions. Teachers only need to stressed on the clue and they can construct the diagrams correctly. Just give a simple questions for the first step and then followed by problems questions. Its work!
For the second time, my lesson went very well because all the student give a very good respond when I ask them several questions. Beside that, they also can answer questions correctly in the exercise given. So, from this experience I know that I can improve my skill if I share my experience with experience teacher and they will help me. For the next year I will use CD to make it very clear as a addition to my explanation. if u have any idea, u can share with me.
Task 2
For me, topic that very challenging to teach is transformation –Mathematics form 2. This topic was different from other topic because students need to imagine the situation and its quite different to understand especially subtopic rotation.
I ask my friend and she advised me to use CD. Its easy because the students saw the movement in transformation questions. But i still cannot find the easier method to teach this topic. Usually I use a CD as my teaching aids.
This lesson need many example questions and show to them the different between translation, rotation and reflection. Actually in my school, we have our work book for mathematics and after they finished answer all the question they can understand it very well.
Its not very good experience because I not using special method. But I like to share with other if you have any ideas.
For me, learning a teaching skill from experience teacher is the best way to improve my skill but I don’t have any interesting idea how to teach this topic.
If you have any idea, I hope I can share it.

Lin,
ReplyDeleteThanks for your response. Well done Lin!
Don't you want to add some diagrams to your explanation?
Yes, anyone who has a good idea on how to teach transformation, please share with Lyneen.
ReplyDeleteSeems sharing is one of the best methods to improve, let's share more then : )sm

ReplyDeleteHi group members,
ReplyDeleteCan you please send a photo to Fariza so she can put it up. Would be nice to see some faces : )sm
Hi again Lyneen,
ReplyDeleteFrom your story I may conclude that through sharing with other colleagues who are teaching the same subject can help you to improve your teaching.. sharing is one of effective ways to get new ideas for our practices, especially if you share the problem with the experienced ones. This is actually part of your professional development .. the skill or knowledge that you gained through sharing with others, not only through the courses you attended.
Will you share with us, Lyneen your opinion about any courses that you have attended so far, especially the ones that related to Maths teaching. Did attending the courses help you to improve? Can you explain why?
Thanks :)
In my opinion, courses that i have been attended so far, especially the ones that related to Maths teaching are very good and really help me to improve my skill. Expecially marking scheme course for PMR. so i know what are important things and how to asnwer questions correctly.
ReplyDeleteLyneen, you are quite a resourceful teacher. From asking experienced teachers and using CDs to getting students to complete the workbook are very good ways of ensuring that your students understand a lesson.
ReplyDeleteyes!! i am agree with u..here we, have same workbook for each form...beside using text book, we also use workbook for extra exercise...
ReplyDeleteMost of the schools nowadays are using workbook as to have students to do extra exercises and I believe that it helps them to master the maths skills.. as well as to help them to answer correctly. It is important for us as teachers to always mark their workbook to see the progress and more importantly is that to discuss with students the solutions to the questions as to make sure that they had followed the right procedures .. and by doing this, weaker students (or maybe the 'shy-to-ask' ones) will benefit too.
ReplyDeleteAre you involved in PMR paper marking Lyneen? If so, I think the experience in marking the papers will also help you a lot in terms of your teaching process..
yes i am...but iam still new..last year is my first year marking paper maths..actually its really help a lot.
